Life threatening dental problems
- Uncontrolled swelling threatening the airway
- Uncontrolled bleeding
If you are suffering from the above you require URGENT attention. Please go to the accident and emergency department out of hours.
Dental Emergencies
- Dental haemorrhage
- Trauma to teeth and jaws
- Swelling around the eye or swelling resulting in difficulty swallowing (and which may indicate an acute infection, which could spread and make breathing difficult)
- Acute, severe continuous dental pain that has not been eased by taking analgesics
- Raised temperature due to infection
These are problems that do require treatment as soon as possible, normally within 12 hours. Please dial 111 for out of hours emergency advice and treatment. This is the NHS emergency number and is free from both mobiles and landlines.
